Happy International Women’s Day

Here’s a very rough maquette of my female ‘Thinker’. I’ve never done sculpture so have a lot of learning to do which is exciting. I’d like to create this as a bigger more detailed version in time. I’m not even sure what material I’ll be using yet!

Drawing stories

Oil pastel on canvas board 40 x 30cm

This commission was a client’s mother who used to draw little pictures as she told her granddaughter stories. I love the intensity of the child’s gaze and the relationship captured between the two - you can tell she was a good storyteller!

The oil pastel drawing was for a client I met by chance when hanging a print of ‘Wednesday Lunch’ in Em’s cafe Whetstone. She said the elderly woman in the painting reminded her of her mother who sadly passed away in the pandemic.

She chose this image of her mother telling stories to her now adult daughter.

Happy Newish year

I’ve got behind with things so reckon I’m just in time to say Happy New Year! Last year was a biggy for me, including my first solo exhibition which was a great learning curve.

Here’s to a kinder and more peaceful year for the world in 2024.

Clouds 2 print

This limited edition giclée print is available in my new Etsy shop at artlal.etsy.com It’s one of 3 cloud studies that sit together as a triptych or individually. The originals are also still available in my gallery sale

Vitruvian Woman?

Coming back atcha Da Vinci!

Vitruvian Woman is one of my first dry point etching prints. I’ve always wnted to depict the image as a powerful woman giving birth. I did a life size corrugated cardboard during lockdown (haven’t screwed up the courage to share that yet!). This idea has been the springboard of several artworks to come which I’m really excited about. Watch this space!

Giclée prints…of the print are available in my Etsy shop at artlal.etsy.com

Autumn view

Trying to capture the beautiful tree out the back before the wind takes all its leaves away. Painted in one sitting with brisk windy brushstrokes!

Cafe prints - supersize!

My art prints are settling in nicely at Potters Pantry and Em’s cafes. Here’s a new one up in Potters Pantry - first time I’ve tried a larger print size than the original painting. I like the way it emphasises the paintbrush strokes and lights and shadows of the thick paint.

Art in the post

‘Dog Walk’ This painting of the Duver in Seaview, the Isle of Wight arrived safely by post with its new owner after the exhibition. It was a work of 2 stages, at first marking out the land/seascape with loose brushstrokes, and then working in a little detail as a focal point. Hence the title!

Prints prints prints!

A while ago I refreshed my artwork in 2 local cafes with these giclée prints of my original artwork. I’m loving this as it means being able to recreate work that has sold in an affordable way, often at a smaller size than the original that suits a lot of people! Again, these are all on beautiful textured Hahnemühle German etching paper printed by the brilliant @theprintspace.

Prints of most of my artworks on Artlal.com are available in A4 and A3 size.

The cafés they’re showing at are the lovely @potterspantry4 in New Barnet and @emscoffeelondon in Whetstone.

Final delivery

‘Ashridge’ was the first painting to sell in my exhibition and the last to deliver! Giclée prints still available - the picture with a black frame is an A4 print.

Longlisted for Women In Art Prize

Lovely to hear my bouncy painting ‘JUMP!’ has been longlisted for the Women In Art Prize. Here’s hoping it’ll leap into the next round! Ba doom chh!

Prints delivery

Delivered a couple of prints today, one of ‘Reading Under Blossom’ and the other ‘Sea Spray’.
I’ve been meaning to offer prints of my work for some time, but it took the exhibition to spur me into action. Finding the right printer has also been key - the Print Space has done these excellent giclée prints on Hahnemuhle german etching paper which really retains the quality of the paint strokes and tones.
Most of my artwork is available in roughly A3 or A4 size

Giclée print of Sea Spray (A3)

Giclée print of Reading under blossom (A4)

More paintings on their way

Another 4 pics on their way to their new owners yesterday including these 2 - Spring Walk and Storm Passing. Farewell my beauties!
Giclée prints still available of all work from exhibition.

Artwork deliveries

What a lovely week delivering some sold artworks from my exhibition, and in the process meeting some fascinating people and catching up with old friends. Here’s Winnie, my stiltwalking boss @circorumbaba who bought ‘Frost Melting’. Still a few to deliver but it’s really nice seeing them go to good homes/walls!

It's a wrap!

The exhibition ended on 22nd May, and I’ve been busy delivering the sold artworks so have got a bit behind with my blog. For those that missed it, here’s some lovely slow TV for you! Thanks to everyone who was involved - your help was invaluable! It’s been an epic experience and I’m still digesting and ruminating on it and on what’s to come. In an ideal world it would involve a bit more art and acting, so we’ll see!

Here’s a slightly wobbly walk round of the exhibition!

Exhibition final days

Last couple of days of my exhibition at Lauderdale House!

Open 12-4 today(Sat 20th), closed tomorrow and 2-5 on Monday. 10% off paintings.

Wednesday lunch

I’m delighted to have sold ‘Wednesday Lunch’ to a very nice couple last weekend. It means a lot when someone shares my enthusiasm for a particular painting (and moment?). This one is especially close to my heart! Giclée prints are still available and have been the most popular print so far. (See mounted print with black frame)

There’s also 10% off all paintings until the end of the exhibition at Lauderdale House, Highgate on Monday 22nd May.
