Exploring colour with life painting

I’ve been having an inspiring time doing life painting at the fantastic Hampstead School of Art.

The palette for this painting of Faith was driven by a bright orange sheet hanging behind her.

More cardboard adventures

Here's my recent commission of a superwoman's four children, using oil pastel on my old faithful corrugated cardboard. I'm still loving playing with textures and colour on this medium.

Arts Depot showcase

A couple of my drawings are on sale as part of Arts Depot’s Spring showcase. This has turned out to be a great local venue for showing my artwork, and this will be the fourth time. I feel much better having them up on a wall for the public to see rather than stashed away in a cupboard! It’s also led to new portrait commissions as well as sales. Thanks Arts Depot!

Trying something!

Here's a pretty speedy portrait I did at the wonderful Art Stables in North Finchley.
I made an attempt at a new technique, scraping sections of the painting while still wet and placing the colours onto other parts of the painting. Not sure about the results and need more practice, but it was fun trying!

Happy 1st Birthday Artlal

It's exactly a year since I launched Artlal and began the brilliant job of creating portraits and artwork for other people. It's been a fantastic learning journey and I feel ridiculously lucky to have had such great support and opportunities from friends and strangers alike. Looking forward to the next chapter and cardboard/canvas challenges!

Portrait delivered

Here’s the commissioned portrait Kirsty Jones won. Taken from an old photo of her nan and her as a baby, it’s drawn with oil pastel on canvas board.

First commission of the year

Here's my first 2019 commission delivered to a proud dad for his birthday, drawn in oil pastels from his favourite photo. His wife texted to say their daughter 'definitely recognises herself, she keeps pointing to it!'

It’s always a pleasure to get a ‘cardboard commission’, and I did this portrait early in the summer. It went down a treat this week as an anniversary gift so can now be shared!

6 faces

This oil painting was a good challenge with 6 faces (the dog counts!) in time for a proud grandad’s birthday. After its surprise reveal at his party, his daughter got in touch,

‘Just to let you know Dad cried when he saw the painting (in a good way!) They loved it thanks so much.’

Mission accomplished!

I had the pleasure of personally delivering this portrait to Jo, commissioned by her husband for her birthday. Her reaction? ‘The best birthday present I’ve received’ Mission accomplished!

Exhibition time

Great news!  Three of my pictures have been selected for two exhibitions at Arts Depot in North Finchley. 

'Kitchen sink bath' will be displayed in the Althorp Gallery as part of Arts Depot Open 2018 from Thursday 26th July.

'Pool Chat' and 'Strawberries' will be on the Exhibition Wall as part of Arts Depot's first ever Arts and Crafts Showcase from 21st July.

All pictures will be for sale.
